Last Saturday, 24 October, the trustees of the Deering Public Library hosted the second annual Halloween party. The event started around noon when Deering residents brought their scarecrow creations to stand before town hall for the next week. At 3 the party started with pumpkin painting, mask coloring, donut on a string eating and general Halloween merriment. Mike Margulies, unplugged, played a few songs. Papa Legbo (AKA me) lead the costume parade out of town hall, around the scarecrows and back in, past the judges. Papa Legbo also told a couple of scary stories to attentive kids. They will not soon forget the man-eating Wendigo! The event was capped with a hayride up Gregg Hill road. The trustees thank Bob Carter and Bob Compton for coordinating on the hayride, Lynn Compton for providing nifty masks to color, Barb Cavanaugh and Bette Margulies (and all others unknown to me) for contributing the treat table (nothing remained at the end!).
It was a fun event. We look forward to an even better party next year! But, before that... stay tuned for the Christmas Party!
Here are some pictures.
