2014 Deering Christmas Party
The 2014 Deering Christmas Party was held on Saturday, December 6 in our Town Hall. Despite the nasty weather that left us with an early winter mix of rain and snow in near freezing temperatures, about 25 children and their associated adult companions enjoyed a great party. The festivities started off at 1:00 pm with about six craft tables where kids could make ornaments from pine cones and salt dough stars, angels, pine trees, candy canes and balls. One table was dedicated to making, and eating in some cases, Christmas trees made from sugar cones and icing. At another table kids could make elegant arrangements from evergreen foliage of various sorts. Musician Roger Tincknell braved the weather and traffic to drive to Deering from Massachusetts with a consort of stringed instruments. Roger lead songs and dancing for everybody over the next hour and therefrom resulted great joyous sounds throughout the hall. Roger has helped Deering celebrate Christmas several times and, he says, he finds our town to be unusual in a most agreeable way. This year Roger drew the winning tickets for a home-made gingerbread house and the Christmas tree (that was donated by the Comptons, thank you). Speaking of coming, the Deering Volunteer Fire Department provided the last leg of Santa's trip from the North Pole. Santa entered Town Hall to great acclaim at 3:00 and for the next hour entertained wishes of a long line of children.
Here are some pictures. The Trustees of the Deering Library hope you will enjoy these pictures and that they can aid in your vicarious enjoyment the party if you could not attend.
We wish you all a Very Merry Christmas and all the best for 2015.
